Countdown to the Kentucky Derby Wreath

For me, the Kentucky Derby is a big deal every year.  I start the countdown in the beginning of April when all of the qualifying stakes races really begin to determine who’s getting in.  What’s cuter than a Derby Countdown Wreath?  This would also be great decoration at your Kentucky Derby party!

Or replace the roses with ribbon rosettes and it can become a horse show countdown!

It’s simple!

Here’s what you need:

  • small slate chalkboard
  • 12″ of ribbon
  • red paint
  • brown paint (or preferable horse color)
  • sponge brush
  • wood horse (local craft store)
  • bunch of small bud fake roses
  • hot glue
  • Sharpie white paint pen
  • chalk

Now, paint your chalkboard red and your horse brown.  Hot glue the ribbon on the back to create your holder.  Next, hot glue your rose buds around the chalkboard (after it has dried).  Hot glue the horse onto the chalkboard in the corner.  With a white Sharpie paint pen, write “Days til Derby” and with a piece of chalk, countdown the days until the Kentucky Derby!  Super easy and super cute!
