Sometimes equestrians are the hardest people to buy for. Let’s face it…we all know what their passion is and that passion can be…well…expensive! Nothing is too good for our horses! This is a great DIY project if you are in need of a quick, cute gift for a horse loving friend. It would also be an excellent party favor! Trust me, you won’t be able to just make one! Soon all of your horse books will have a cute equestrian ribbon bookmark hanging from it.
DIY Equestrian Ribbon Bookmark
What you need:
- Velvet ribbon or what you would like (I prefer the 7/8″ size)
- Ribbon clamps (same size as your ribbon)
- Flat nose pliers
- Jump rings
- Charms
You can find spools of ribbon at any craft store or online. I wanted some velvet ribbon in bright colors so I ordered some on Etsy. (Try here, for example. I liked being able to order by the yard.) You can also usually find spools on sale. Hobby Lobby has theirs for 50% off all the time. Next, you need the ribbon clamps which again you should be able to find at your local craft store. If not, they can be purchased here in a variety of sizes and colors, artfire.com. I used regular flat nose pliers although you can purchase ones for jewelry. Jump rings and the charms can be purchased at your local craft store. I found some of the equestrian related ones on Etsy.
Tutorial:
After you have gathered your items together, cut the ribbons into the length you desire. I would suggest around 9 inches.
Next, attach a ribbon clamp to each end of the ribbon. Squeeze the clamp close with the flat nose pliers. Make sure you have it on straight and it is the same width as your ribbon!
Gather your charms. These can be anything…charms, trinkets, vintage earrings…whatever you’d like! If they’re equestrian-related, even better!
Next, you will attach the jump ring to the ribbon clamp and to your charm. I use the pliers to close the ring, and I often use more than one ring to attach it. I like for them to dangle.
Voila! You have just made an equestrian ribbon bookmark! So simple, so fun, and so perfect! Hope you enjoy! 🙂
