Review: Blooddrop Horse-Inspired Perfumerie

With the Chinese Year of the Horse in full swing, we will probably be seeing a lot of horse-inspired products pop up, and I pretty much think that will be a very fun thing!  This product review request may be the most unique one I have done so far.  When Astrid of Blooddrop asked me try out her horse-inspired line of perfumes, I was instantly intrigued.  I had the best time going through and seeing what I took away from each one.  The great thing about these horse-inspired perfume collections is that there is something for EVERYONE!  You will have no problem finding a favorite scent amongst her gems.  I also loved the packaging.  They are packaged and presented beautifully!  Let me help you decide which one may be right for you.

Year of the Horse – Horses of the Carousel Collection

(You will find the exact description of each perfume on Blooddrop.com.  I strongly encourage you to read the whimsical description, full of fantastic fantasy prose.  I will include some but most are what I took away from the scents).

The Twisted Horse –  This scent reminded me of a cinnamon roll with a slight coffee undertone.  If you like something sweet with a hint of decadence, this is the scent for you.

The Mountain Horse – This one was amaretto coffee with a hazelnut overtone for me.  However, you may take away a different touch with each whiff.  There is a hint of chocolate as well.

The Fire Horse – This scent presented itself to me as a lemon tea, specifically lemon top notes with a chai tea.  It definitely has citrus undertones.

The Glittering Horse – This one came across as mixed fruit with a touch of mint.  Per Blooddrop, “its perfume is of vanilla fruit candy, a touch of mint leaf and old-fashioned stick rock sugar candy.”

The Garden Horse – This one has a woodsy undertone of lemon.  It made me think of the polished wood of old carousels.

The Velvet Horse – I like to think I inspired this one (ha!).  I took in a slight cappuccino scent with a cinnamon undertone.  Overall, it has a light nutty scent.  Per Blooddrop, “its scent is that of a chocolate and coconut cupcake with chocolate cream cheese filling and chocolate frosting decorated with red and purple sugar rose petals.”  I didn’t get as much as chocolate as stated, but you might!

The Cosmic Horse – This one was plain old fashioned grape bubble gum for me.  I believe it is supposed to be a blueberry scent but it was grape to me.  If you want something really different and fun, this is the scent for you.

The Lyrical Horse – This is a young, happy smell!  It reminded me of a raspberry jelly donut.

The Aurous Horse – Think vanilla cupcake in a fresh bakery.  Yum!

The Giant Horse – I got chocolate coffee with a suggestion of mint with this one.  Very different!

L’Ecurie Blooddrop (aka Blooddrop Stables) Collection

This collection features limited edition equine themed scents.  These will rotate as Astrid is inspired by the noble horse.  You will recognize some of the famous horses behind these perfumes.

Head Over Hooves – This one is a fresh, floral scent with a slight clean linen undertone. (Love the story behind this one!)

Gem Twist – We all know the fabulous horse that inspired this perfume!  This one came across as a high end perfume scent to me.  I got white tea with a touch of lemon.  “Bright and forward lemon verbena, michelena alba, white tea, rosemary and a touch of frankincense.”  This one was my ultimate favorite!

Hippoi Athanatoi – I took away a few things from this scent as you draw in different details with each sniff.  It has a floral feel (I got carnations to be specific) with a ginger and white tea under current.  If you like a soft floral, powdery scent, this is the one for you.

Marengo – Two words:  chocolate cherries!

Moorlands Totilas – I found this one to be the most masculine scent in the collections.  Which would make sense given who Totilas is!  It is woodsy with a leather undertone.  “Totilas is like a super hero horse of the dressage world with his abilities. His fragrance is deep, dark, elegant with an underlying force. Amber, vetiver, vanilla, davana, attar denoul oud, peru balsam and fenugreek.”

Uffington Horse – With this scent, I am transported to an English cottage in the countryside with a beautiful flower garden full of wild roses.  This scent is spring and floral.

Zennadu – This has a clean, vintage feel to it, reminding me of baby powder and lavender.  It’s a very comforting scent.

So which ones are my favorites?  I can tell you.  Gem Twist lands the number one spot.  This scent is amazing!  Respectively following are Head Over Hooves, Zennadu, Hippoi Anathatoi, and Uffington Horse.

One thing I adore about this line is the vintage feel to it all.  I love how everything is presented.  So unique and beautiful!

Blooddrop is not limited to just perfumes.  They also offer many other glorious items for us to pamper ourselves with.  They mix beautiful nail polish colors like the one I received with coordinating eye shadow.  It really is a gorgeous color.  I love to wear pink eyeshadow, and I always mix mine with a brown color.  It comes out looking really pretty.  You should try it!  (The key to perfect eyeshadow is blend, blend, blend!  Lighter color on the eyelid, darker in the crease, and highlight under the brow).  This is Frozen Apple.

Astrid was so generous to let me try so many of her products!  The Linen Chamber spray in “Frolic” is a very clean scent with a touch of apples.  What a perfect way to mist your furniture and rooms for a lovely scent!  The next in the photo below is the Sugar Polish in “Autumn Tea Cakes.”  A sugar polish is an excellent way to exfoliate your skin (get that caked barn dirt off you!).  It smells fresh with a hint of lemon.  I’m going to skip to the Chauffe Lit Moisturizing Bath Oil.  After exfoliating with your sugar polish, dribble some of this into your bath and let the day at the barn melt away.  This will soothe any aching muscles and have you feeling refreshed in no time.  “Buttercream, amber, sweet orange, Roman chamomile, aged patchouli, nutmeg, and honeysuckle. This is a warm, glowing bed perfect for using prior to bedtime on a cold, winter’s night!”  Love that chamomile scent in it!  After this, add the Shea & Coco Flutter Body Cream.  This smooths on like silk, and it feels so nice against your skin.  The scent is soft and clean.  Lastly, Kiss Kiss Luscious Lip Balm.  This glides on smooth and light with no heavy feeling and keeps your lips nice and moist.  Perfect to have around the barn!
