Steffen Peters is currently ranked 6th in the Olympic dressage competition. Originally from Germany, Peters became a U.S. citizen in 1992 and was named to the U.S. Olympic team in 1996 where he won a team bronze medal. He was then named an alternate for the 2004. He has won won back-to-back World Dressage Masters and the 2009 World Cup. He currently resides in the San Diego area where he trains his horses which is his favorite part. “I’ve spent most of my riding career bringing four and five year-old young horses through the levels to Grand Prix,” he said. “To me there is no greater reward than spending six or seven years with a horse until they’re confirmed at the highest level, and can go out and ‘strut their stuff’ with the best of them. You can’t help getting seriously attached to these horses. They have to absolutely be your best friend and show up 100 percent at the most important times in competition.”
